I’ve decided to celebrate Labor Day weekend by performing labor on my car. My 944 is now sporting fresh rubber and nice new 4-pot brake calipers and Redstuff pads. I also finished reupholstering a set of early 944 Recaros and will be installing them tomorrow.

I love those sport seats!! I didn’t know they were Recaros, that fulfills my wish to have a car with Recaro seats then. Interesting choice to go with black/red. What were they before?

The driver’s seat was black and wrecked up. I saved it from the ‘84 I used to own, which didn’t have two sport seats so I had to source another one, which was brown. I used the upholstery kit sold by only944.com, and they turned out pretty well. The driver’s seat has a couple of wrinkles but I think they will fall out with some use.

I’m curious how well the only944 kits will hold up long term. If you need a new sunroof seal set though, I’m using theirs and it’s fantastic albeit with some slightly difficult installation.
If I ever had to reupholster the seats(hopefully not), I’d have to stick with the cloth script centers. It’s so unapologetically 80s.

I’m hoping they wear well. They’re vinyl but as far as I can tell it’s a quality material. The overall quality and fit/finish of the covers was very good, especially for the price. And they were able to make it to order in the colors and stitch patterns I specified, even replacing the piping with a nice French seam. I’ll be sure to update on long term durability. The 944 is my DD so it’ll get a lot of abuse.

In the winter too??

Yep. I swap on a set of phone dials with Blizzaks mounted. It does quite well in the snow, actually. At least until the snow gets deeper than the bumper. And it is much more rust resistant than other vehicles I’ve owned. I wash it frequently to keep the salt under control, too.

And there isn’t any rust forming anywhere or anything? In any nook or cranny? How long have you DD’d it in winter here? With the crazy amount of salt they use here as well.
That's actually astounding.

This will be its second winter with me, and I know the most recent PO drove it a few more. There’s surface rust on some suspension components and brackets, but nothing major. My wife’s 2007 Equinox looks like hell underneath compared to my 1987 944. Porsche did a really good job on rustproofing.
Also, it’s not like it’s an expensive car. I’ve put a lot of work into it to make it nicer, but it’s also my only car so I don’t have a lot of choice except to keep it as clean as I can and make sure there’s no bare steel anywhere before winter hits.
One day I’ll probably retire it from DD duty but it has to suffer through a few more winters first.

Unfortunately, I have to fill in for my dad for work this morning last minute, so I won’t be able to do anything more than drive past if you’re at Pasteiner’s. But if you’re still in the area, let me know. Hopefully at some point, our schedules will line up for C&C.

No worries. I ended up oversleeping and woke up too late to go anyway. How late into the season do they do C&C there? I probably won’t have another free Saturday until October.

They run well into November, but the number of cars starts dwindling as the weather gets colder of course. The sooner the better really applies to C&C when weather comes into play. Last year I went on the last week of October and there were only 3-4 cars including myself.

Hold on a second, you’re not on Rennlist by chance, and we’ve conversed on there before, have we? (o_O)

I think so. I’m SloMo228 over there and on Pelican.

Then yes we have! I’m Karl_W944 and Karl_W911 on Rennlist and Pelican Respectively.
